A rare opportunity

The evolving pandemic offers a rare opportunity to investigate how a global threat can impact both essential and non-essential healthcare workers and students studying to work in these fields. The objective Project COPE is to understand the experiences and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on wellness, moral distress, and life experiences of healthcare providers, allied health practitioners, those in public health, and complementary and integrative healthcare practitioners in real time rather than after the event as previous disasters have reported.

Hi, my name is Ann Blair Kennedy and I am a professor in the Biomedical Sciences Department at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. I am working with researchers from several institutions including Clemson University, Indiana University and Prisma Health. This study is not sponsored or funded by any outside entity at this time.

My team and I are studying how the Covid-19 pandemic is impacting both essential and “non-essential” healthcare providers/allied healthcare providers. If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete some surveys about who you are and how you are doing right now. Then you’ll be asked if you’d like to submit a video journal and if you’d be willing to answer more surveys in the future.

In particular, you will be asked questions about stress/burnout, your particular concerns during the pandemic – both work related and personal concerns, and how you are coping. If you feel uncomfortable answering some of the questions, please know you do not have to answer any questions that you do not wish to answer. If you decide to participate in the video journal portion of the study, you will be given specific instructions on how to send us these recordings.

Your responses will be kept confidential. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, the Principal Investigator, Ann Blair Kennedy at kenneda5@greenvillemed.sc.edu, or the University of South Carolina’s Office of Research Compliance (803) 777-6670.
